What is it?

Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is sometimes called thioctic acid, an antioxidant derived from potatoes. Each tablet contains 100 mg. No fillers are listed.

According to the manufacturer:

"Alpha Lipoic is a powerful antioxidant which works with other nutrients such as vitamins E, C and glutathione to defend against excessive free radicals. It is called a universal antioxidant because it is soluble in both water and lipid based tissue. Moreover, the body uses it in many other ways, including food metabolism and energy production. What makes Alpha Lipoic Acid so versatile is the two sulfur atoms that are part of each molecule."

Cautions

Diabetics may experience hypoglycemia from increased glucose utilization. Very high doses may cause gastrointestinal upset. High doses also compete with biotin and a source of biotin should also be taken. High doses of biotin are also excellent for diabetes.

Suggested Use

A healthy person needs from 20mg to 50mg daily. Those with special needs should take 200mg or more three times daily.
